VISION
Our Flock aims to unite and empower ornithologists from Latine communities and backgrounds, fostering a strong network of professionals, researchers, and bird enthusiasts dedicated to the study and conservation of birds. By creating a safe and welcoming environment, we aim to empower Latin American communities in global ornithology, strengthen regional research efforts, and promote knowledge-sharing and conservation strategies rooted in local expertise and cultural perspectives.
As a flock, we envision providing a culturally informed space for professional development, networking, and mentorship. We also advocate for the inclusion and advancement of Latine perspectives and foster community engagement through social, cultural, educational, and outreach activities. Beyond the Flock, we envision a future where Latin American ornithologists are fully recognized and represented in international scientific discussions, policymaking, and conservation initiatives.
MISSION
We believe in fostering a supportive and diverse community where Latin American ornithologists can thrive. Our Flock is a safe and welcoming space for building friendships and sharing experiences. We recognize that working in ornithology—whether in the field, lab, or academia—can sometimes be challenging and isolating. Therefore, our mission is to offer a place where members can connect, support one another, and enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded individuals who share a passion for birds and conservation. Our Flock embodies the principles of scientific excellence, collaboration, conservation, and inclusion.
Our community faces challenges such as limited funding, underrepresentation in international research, working with/within organizations that have foundations in colonialist practices, and threats to biodiversity. To address these needs, we uphold the values of knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and advocacy, ensuring that our work advances science and strengthens local conservation efforts.
